They say, that lord Malboro appreciated the Chinese screen of a Coromandel varnish, which had been given to him in 1704 by the emperor of Sacred Roman empire Leopold 1 so much, that did not part with it even on a field of fight..

Today there are about ten such screens in state museums and private assemblies in the countries of Europe and America. That is why a screen of Coromandel varnish, executed by the Chinese foremen in the middle of 17 century, from the assembly of unique Municipal museum of personal collections of Bleschynov A.V. is true rarity in scales of the state, as it has no analogues in our country. Real Coromandel screens are considered to be the best of all varnish screens and have the characteristic feature- the cut decoration .

The preliminary researches allow to assume, that this screen represents the unique sample of the Chinese varnish art of epoch of Mines (middle of 17 century) and, undoubtedly, it can be attributed to the subjects of national property of Ukraine.

Screen is six-folding, bilateral, the size of one shutter is 40,5 x171 sm. The list of a front side concludes stages from life of imperial palace, occupies all six shutters and has a frame with the images of " hundred subjects ", which were considered necessary for the life after death.

In the beginning, in the period of dynasty Mines (1368-1644)., the screens were made for the Chinese market and were ordered for gifts to birthdays or to other celebratory events. Frequently they represented a holiday or some memorials in life of the celebrated person. The similar motive is used in a list of our screen. On other side of a screen there is a list concluding motives of "paintings of flowers and birds ",with ornamental framework including the alternating images of a hieroglyph sin fu (hieroglyph of happiness) and flowers of lotos. Behind the decorative form of this painting there are symbolical wishes of happiness, riches, success.

Unfortunately, the condition of a screen is catastrophic. Further safety and exhibiting need its immediate restoration ,meaning, at the first stage, the restoration of a wooden basis, the strengthening of varnish layer, removal of pollution and records, manufacturing of fastenings and case for maintenance of optimum tempratural- wet of a mode.

Also the research work is necessary to find the methods of restoration of varnish and colourful layers. There is a preliminary arrangement with the experts about an opportunity of its restoration, however the absence of funds puts under threat the realization of prime restoration processes. This can result in irreversible consequences and in final result to destruction of this masterpiece of a world treasury of fine art.
